VIDEO: YO-YO MA and KATHRYN STOTT'S making of the album SONGS FROM THE ARC OF LIFE
Lifelong friends cellis YO-YO MA and pianist KATHRYN STOTT collaborate once again to create a unique classical music experience in a new album entitled SONGS FROM THE ARC OF LIFE, which will be made available from SEPTEMBER 18, 2015.
"To me, it's a beautiful story from the beginning of life and what we see as the journey of life so far [...] We sort of arrived that the fact that we could make it into a story, so that there was a cohesive story, there was somewhere to go with the pieces so that it made sense, there was something to follow.", says Stott.
This new album also celebrated thirty years of friendship and collaboration in concerts and recordings for MA and STOTT. The album includes pieces that they have frequently performed together, but never recorded, as well as a handful of discoveries.
"What we are starting with are sort of taking from our musical lives as well as from our professional lives of playing thirty years together," says YO-YO MA. "It's sort of picking our favourite pieces that we thought match what an arc of life looks like, what the design of someone's life looks like."
Stott says "Music is something that really does bring people together at certain times in their lives. At certain moments maybe of sadness or happiness that maybe you've shared with your family, your friends or by going to a concert, and that it itself is quite different from listening to something in your own home."
